Our books are not written by AI. Humans wrote these books and humans edited them. Every title we sell originates as a complete novel written by a human author, and our editors — working in the United States — perform and approve the editorial work that turns it into the book you receive.
We create derivative works. Starting from a novel whose copyright has expired, we change and update elements including but not limited to:
The result is a unique, new derivative work. We also modernize archaic language, rewrite passages for a contemporary reader, and rebuild the manuscript into the formats required by retailers. Our editors review and sign off on the chapter structure, character names, title, cover and description before any book is delivered.
The novels our derivative works are based on were written in earlier periods and may contain language, terms, names, characterizations, concepts, depictions and passages that are outdated, culturally insensitive, or offensive to modern readers.
We screen for offensive language and remove what we find, including racial slurs and period cruelty that no publisher would print today. This is a good-faith effort and we take it seriously — but these are long books, and we cannot guarantee that every objectionable word, passage or characterization has been caught. Some may still slip through.
You are the publisher of record for anything you upload. We strongly recommend you read what you publish. The presence of historical material in a source text does not represent an endorsement of it by Foothill Press.
We select source works we have determined, in good faith and using the resources available to us, to be free of copyright in the United States. We check publication dates, authorship and status before a work enters production.
We did what we could to verify copyright status, but we cannot give you a legal guarantee. Copyright status can vary by country, by edition, and by circumstances that are not always visible in the public record. If you have any concerns about the status of a work, you should evaluate it for yourself, and consult your own attorney if you want a legal opinion. We are publishers, not your lawyers, and nothing here is legal advice.
On delivery, we assign to you all rights we hold in the derivative works in your series, in writing. That assignment is what you own: the new work created by our editorial changes. You are then free to publish, retitle, rename, bundle, sell or transfer it.
A series is sold once. When a series is delivered to you it is retired from our inventory. We do not sell, license or deliver those same finished books to anyone else.
Series are built to order. Files are delivered electronically, typically as a download link sent to the email address on your order. Production timelines are estimates given in good faith and may move.
All sales of digital products are final. There are no refunds on anything that has been downloaded.
Once a file has been downloaded it cannot be returned, and we cannot verify that it has been deleted. This applies to manuscripts, covers, interiors, reports, sample series and every other digital item we deliver, free or paid.
If a file is corrupt, incomplete or will not open, contact us and we will fix or replace it. That is a delivery problem and we will always make it right.
Prices are in United States dollars. We may refuse or cancel any order, and we may change our products, prices and offerings at any time. If we cancel an order before delivery, you are refunded in full.
Nothing on this site or in anything we deliver is a promise or prediction of sales, rankings, income or results. Publishing outcomes depend on your own decisions about pricing, covers, categories, advertising and marketing, and on market conditions no one controls. Category and keyword figures we publish are third-party estimates, not Amazon-reported revenue.
You are responsible for your own compliance with the terms of any platform you publish on, including all disclosures those platforms require.
Free materials, including sample series and reports, are provided for your own publishing use. Do not resell, redistribute or republish our reports, or represent our catalog, research or editorial work as your own product for resale to others.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Foothill Press is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from the use of our products, including lost profits or platform account actions. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the product the claim concerns.
